Dry Means Dry
Every log is cut to length and split within a few weeks of coming into the yard, then stacked in rows under three open-sided sheds where the wind goes through and the rain does not. It stays there 12 to 18 months.
Before a load goes on the truck we split a few pieces from the middle of the row and push a moisture meter into the fresh faces. If it reads 20 percent or more, that row waits.
Dry wood lights from one match, burns hot and clean, and leaves less in the chimney. The longer version is on the yard page.
What a Cord Looks Like
Before You Order
How much wood does a winter take?
A stove that heats most of a house through a Duluth winter burns 3 to 5 full cords. A stove used on evenings and weekends gets by on 1 to 2. A sauna fired twice a week uses about a half cord a year.
Where can the truck go?
Anywhere with a drive at least 10 feet wide, firm ground and 12 feet of clear height when the box tips. In spring we stay off lawns. The details and a drawing are on the delivery page.
Do you stack it?
Yes, for $65 a full cord or $40 a half cord, anywhere within 60 feet of where the truck stops. Otherwise we tip it in one tidy pile where you ask.
What if it is wet when it arrives?
Rain on the outside of a load is surface water and dries in a day or two. If a piece split down the middle reads 20 percent or more, email us and we will take the load back.
Mud Season
Every year we shut the yard for the last two weeks of April. The frost comes out of the ground, the county posts the back roads for weight, and the yard turns to soup. Nobody wants a loaded truck sunk to the axles in their driveway, and neither do we. Order by the fourteenth, or wait for May.
